Hey HD lovers.

So I am looking for my first bike and I love the way the Iron 883 looks and feels with the mid foot controls. But is this motor going to be too small for someone my size? I am 5'7" about 210 lbs. im not that fat (i wear a large t-shirt). but i am just wondering if i should get the 1200 nightster or a bigger bike instead.

That depends on what kind of riding you're planning on doing.

In terms of weight, you and I are just about the same size. For thirty some odd years (on and off), I rode 400CC cruiser style rice burners that adequately carried me on all of my "utility" riding. Those bikes were great for the commuter stuff but not really very good on the highway and we're not really comfortable for long-haul riding.

I specifically bought my Sportster because I'm now carrying my 110 lb son with me. The last 400cc bike just didn't seem up to hauling 330 lbs at more than 50 mph. Besides, I wanted something newer than 30 years old.

One last note, if I hadn't found such a good deal on a 1200cc XLH, I probably would have bought an 883 XLC.

 

You have no worries as far as the power in the motor. I know guys bigger than you that ride 500's and 650's with no problem. I would say your only concern would be the size of the frame and the overall size of the bike. If the bike feels big enough size wise you should be fine.

 

Exactly...If the bike feels right to you you're all good.

 

Its all about what feels good. I am 5'11 230 lbs and am perfectly comfortable on my Iron 883 with mid controls. Some people would say I am to big for my setup, but if its comfortable then thats all that matters.

I'm 6'1" & 230#'s. I take my son's XL883C out every chance I get, and have a blast on it. I think it has more get up and go than my 96ci softail.

 

The bigger you are the more a long trip might get to you, as a daily runner you would be fine. i'm sure forward controls would help out.

 

Dude I'm pretty big 5'9" 2 biskits shy of 250 it hauls my furry a$$ around just fine.
