Default Recommendations for wrapping exhaust

Ive been considering the Lick's lava wrap, but I just figured I'd ask here to see if anyone had first hand experience with other wraps you may prefer. Or sleeves for that matter. Brands and pros/cons much appreciated.

Went with a $7 roll off ebay last april. No issues, no complaints.

Looks like it's $13 this year. Can't beat it.

I've used the regular ink dyed (black) wrap and the dye ran right out of it the first time I washed it! I then went with the lava wrap, kept it the color it was, which I had no problems with, and then painted it black with high temp paint.

Not sure what kind of info you're looking for. Don't think there's much of a difference in heat between the two. The lava wrap does seem to be a bit more durable. Depending on what color you want to have and if you want to save a few bucks, you could just go with the regular wrap that everyone stamps their name on and paint it with high temp paint if desired.

Don't know how price compares but I have the SE wraps, didn't paint them this time and I like it. Ran the SEs for 2 years without any issues.

Thanks all. Just looking for opinions in all aspects. I was thinking of doing a "tan" color, like the lava wrap. Most people with black say the color fades, I've noticed.

I've never done anything with an exhaust before, so I have a couple other questions that I didn't raise because I'm sure I'd figure it out when I got there. I just plan on taking the mufflers off and running the stock headers wrapped (have seen a few nightsters this way and liked the look), but from experienced people, is it easier to take the headers off and wrap them, or can you leave them on? Any tips for application?

I realize there will probably be a performance difference, but I plan on adding a ViED at the same time. Do tips (like Biltwell's) serve any performance function?

I wrapped mine with Therma Tec since it was the only manu with copper colored. Well...it faded and now looks like the lick's lava wrap in Titanium. ThermoTec does have a copper hi temp paint for the wrap, i'll be giving that a try soon.

You'll want to take the headers off, MUCH easier.

Don't forget, if you remove the pipes you will have to replace the "crush" gaskets. I've never actually removed or installed pipes but I like to sound smart anyway

Kontankerous, I used the thermo tec copper spray on my copper wrap and it turned black/gray on the first ride. I have sikpipe diesels which do run hot as hell so that did not help but just thought you should know.

Anyone know about the benefits of putting "tips" to the stock headers?
