Your best bet is to find a wheel from an '05 or '06. You can go backwards, ie. '04, if you change the wheel bearings to 1" but don't try to use an '07 and up.
From what I understand, the bores in the wheel are different because the 25mm bearings are a different thickness.
Any triple clamp from any model Sportster '04 and up with a narrow glide front will be fine. The 48 and the '11 up "Custom" models have a mid-glide, iirc. I think, but I won't promise, you can use a triple clamp off an older Sportster, but you'd have to use the old style risers, too. They're rubber dampened risers.
If you need a new lower leg for the suspension, get the appropriate fitment for the axle size, which is a lower leg off an '05 or '06. If you change both lower legs, you can buy any axle size you want to match whatever wheel you find. However, all the little additional parts (axle, spacers, etc.) add up quick.
Check the steering neck cups for dings or indentations and replace the bearings while you're in there.
Look around. Ask questions. Good luck.
Sportster axle sizes by year:

Fronts are:
'04 - '07: ¾"
'08+: 25mm

Rears are:
'04: ¾"
'05-'07: 1"
'08+: 25mm

Has the bike been declared totaled? Will it have a salvage title? Are you positive the frame is intact, straight and true? A bike like this can sometimes be more trouble and money than it's worth.

ok so the front end I was trying to get slipped away. I have found a set of triple clamps for an 07 sportster but will they fit a 05 sportster? Also I have no idea what kind of aftermarket parts I can buy if i need the froks and tubes etc. Any help would be appreciated.

The '07 triple clamps should work fine. Cross reference the part #'s from 2007 and 2005 Parts Manuals. The #'s should be the same. There is a difference between the "Custom" models' lower clamp and other models'. The "C" models have a hole bored out for the bottom mount headlight. If you get a lower clamp from a different model and you'd like to use the bottom mount light, you'll need to drill the mounting hole. No big deal.
You can check part #'s and look at assembly diagrams here:
http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.....asp?make=hdmc
You need to add the parts to your Parts List, then add them to your Cart to see the part #'s. They're the same in '05 and '07. I checked.
If you could find an entire front end, it'd be sweet. I got one, minus the head light, for 100 bucks four years ago. That was an awesome deal. Replacement 39mm fork tubes are available through Drag Specialties. There are probably other potential suppliers. I don't know about the lowers (be aware of the axle size, of course). Probably gonna end up being Harley parts.

thanks the info that microfiche will come in handy. I have a guy that has two complete front ends so im trying to get it all in one but looking at a backup plan if I have to buy separate. Im so green to this that its not even funny. Like when a person has a raked triple clamp im assuming that kicks the front end out at more of an angle? am I wrong >

you're correct. but that changes the overall dynamic of the bike. Since you're this green to the whole thing, I would steer (no pun intended) clear of any raked front ends. Stick with OEM tolerances/measurements for now until you get some notches on your belt.
