Curious... wife has an 2010 883. We have no battery tender yet.
If she does not ride the bike at least every week and a half, the battery gets so low that it can't start the bike.

Is this normal?

I have a 76 Sportster with a new battery and let it sit in my bike over the winter. When I pulled it (the battery) out to check it the battery was greater than 80% charged. Sounds like a weak battery that is going bad. I'm sure if you ran the bike more it would stay charged longer in between rides. I would still take the battery in and have it checked. Keep the shinny side up!

You need a battery tender........ They are way cheaper than a new battery. Or you need a new battery. BTW Don't jump start if off your Ford with the Ford running anymore!!

If you have a volt meter check how low the voltage drops when you try to start it. If it drops below 9.6V the battery is hooped. Standing charge with no load should be above ~12.6V.

I just discovered the battery on my 9 month old bike is toast.

Yes, that's normal. Particularity if you live in a hot climate, which I believe you do. I also don't have a battery tender, but my bikes don't sit that long, and I live in a moderate climate.

A trip to Walmart would be good.

Mine had sat for nearly a month at one point over the winter, fired right up.

No it's not normal! Admittedly I don't live in a hot climate, but I would expect that to make life easier for a battery than in colder climes. A tender will get around the problem you have, but it seems likely a new battery is in your stars! Once running, it is well worth checking the charging, to ensure everything is working properly.
