you can buy an iron and make it into a 1250 for far less than the others. NRHS can turn it into a hotrod if your willing to invest! with everything listed in my signature plus BDL performance clutch kit, cometic .030 top end gasket kit, cam cover gasket, denso iridium plugs, hurricane pushrods, and a crank case breather kit i have $1500 more than a stock 48 and $2000 more than a nightster invested and my iron would pass them like they were going backward. just something to think about if your going to drop $10500 on a 48 or $10000 on a nightster. iron new $8000 (Used cheaper) 1250 kit $700 =$8700 $1300 less than a nightster with more engine. You would need a tuner also though.

$8700 + whatever it costs you to get it installed, plus another $200 for some forward controls... yeah, I'd go 48

Good forwards are more than $200, but are they necessary for all? No.

My Indy shop said $600-$700 for the install, grab a tuner for $300.

Now you have less than 10k in it, fast as heck (for an HD) cheaper insurance, and a cooler lookin bike...

Of course you haven't needed it. You have it. If you didnt have it your engine would have blown pulling out of the dealership.

My buddy had the tranny go on his Night Rod, dealershippd picked up 100% of the tab plus threw him some free shwag for his time with out the bike.

If you're worried about warranty, don't F^&* with it then.

The cost per HP with an Iron 1250/cam kit vs. a 48 or Nightster is less. So you actually do get more bang for your buck AND you get the Iron denim black and a nice HUGE 3.3g tank

I'm not gonna do the math for you but if your gonna chop it up. get a used bike and save yourself $2-$4k off the bat.

1200 is good when your on the highway doing 65 and want to punch it.

with the iron, you'll run out of punch it power in the 70's

now I'm not saying the iron feels week at 70 mph. I'm just saying that at 75 mph on my nightster, If I want to go to 100, I get there fast with no problem or long *** wait.

The irons are geared for torque, you wont have any problem with low end torque

So the question is. do you want a black engine or grey??

get a used low milage Iron. no need to worry over warranty. my advice above was assuming you did the engine upgrades yourself. If money is not an issue by the 48 or 72. i would almost be willing to bet you'll want to do some engine work to those also. to each his own though. Just ride 'em like ya stole 'em!

What do you like about the look about the Iron? The flat black paint?
I thought I liked the cast wheels on the iron but the spokes and fatty tire on the front appeals to me now which is on the 48. As for the iron I am just liking the flat black and lack for big tank graphics. I figure it would have to be a a paint job on a 48 to be truely happy.
