Default Anyone try buying a 72 recently

I am in the market for a candy red Sportster 72. Has anyone tried buying one recently and would you share the deal you got? So far, everyone is acting like they are doing me a favor by selling the bike. I have cash and there is no trade involved cause I am keeping my other bike.

Best I got was MSRP and they would waive setup and doc fees. I don't think this is much of a deal because setup and doc fees are just additional dealer markup. Hell, how much can it cost to do docs when they basically just hit a button on the computer.

So I am at MSRP plus the state sales tax and title. I still think that's high given they don't have to floor a trade.

Comments are appreciated.

Popular bike at the moment so they don't need to cut the price and having no trade-in actually doesn't work in your favor.....It's the same with the Slims.......and something to think about is the '13's will be available in blue.....

I learned MSRP is a deal with a Harley. Get extras. I got an $850 in store credit.

Thanks, I guess I will just argue for some in store credit and prepare to spread the cheeks.

Its really not such a bad thing. The head sales guy explained to me........and it makes sense, it helps keep the resale value high. Though Im not worried about resale I saw his point. Ive got MANY dealers in the Atlanta area, NOBODY would sell less than MSRP (I went to 5).

Yup. I had the same experience when I bought my Road King. The local dealer is actually a good guy and there was no way he was going below MSRP. I got all the other BS fees waived and a bit of shop credit but that was it. I just got off the phone with the next closest dealer about 4 hours away and it was MSRP plus a couple of hundred.

Looks like if I want to play, I got to pay. Now I just gotta get my head around letting loose of $11,200 bones for a second bike I really don't have to have.

If the bike is selling good right off the bat, no need for the dealer to cut the price.

When I bought my Custom back in 09, the 4 dealers I went to were all hanging around the MSRP of the bike, but the dealer I bought from covered $900 worth of accessories I added on before I bought it. Make a list of HD parts that you want to add and bring that in with you when you go to talk numbers.

If it were me, I'd shoot for the full blown super tuner deal and a dyno tune for after you get it setup the way you like.
