Default Brake And head light issues

I took my bike to a mechanic to get it tuned up when I first bought it. It needed a new headlight so he replaced it. Ever since then the electrical has been screwy. It is a 1990 sportster engine on a custom built soft tail frame. When turn on the power the running brake light works but when you press the brake, the brake light comes
On but the headlight turns on as well. Then when you turn the power for the headlight on, the headlight turns on and the brake light is constantly on.

Does anybody have any suggestions On what is happening I've spent days trying I find the wiring problem but can't figure it out.
