2005 883L..it doesn't happen all the time. It has happened maybe 4 times since I've owned the bike (Sept 11'). It only happens when I start the bike after it's been sitting for a few days. I'll take off and after a minute or two it makes a loud screech that sounds like it comes out the air filter, then it doesn't happen the rest of the day. This morning I pulled out of my driveway and came to the first stop sign. As I downshifted to first it screeched and shut off. Started it back up and it never happened again. This is the first time it's actually shut off. Other times it just makes the loud screech, hesitates for a split second and it's fine after that. Am I not letting it warm up long enough? Any help is appreciated.
Anyone with ideas? Did it again this afternoon for a split second while pulling out onto the street from my driveway. Didn't shut the bike off this time, but just made it hesitate for a second and was fine the rest of the day.
A "screech" sound isn't much much to go on, but the only thing on the bike that I can think of that might sound like a screech, would be the starter engaging while the motor is running.

This would make sense
I know it sounds stupid but are you hitting the switch?
Thanks for the replies. I'm not hitting any switches. It sounds like it comes out the air filter. It makes the bike hesitate a split second and never happens again. I'm not sure how to explain it other than a loud screeching sound and only at the beginning of a first ride.
generally if you hear a loud screech and then the motor quits, the motor never starts again. Does the bike lunge forward when it happens or anything? The clutch could be grabbing or something. You said it sounds like it's coming from the air cleaner, maybe pull it off and see if something is covering your carb opening or something? Not much to go on, but if you think you know where it's coming from, start there.
Could it be your clutch? I have to take off my helmet and ride around the block to listen to noises my bike makes. With my FF helmet on, the only thing I hear is that sweet rumble.
