hi! having problems with finding info on 1960 xlch clutch slipping. seems to come & go??? storage shed find, riden it about 200 miles in the last month and problem only showed up in the last 50 or so miles. on my early morning ride today i stoped at a stop light and it wanted to start creeping forward strongly in first gear with the clutch fully pulled in? kinda scarry so thats why im here talking to you guys. what should i be looking at to fix? im a prity good mechinec but never had dealings with a vintage "dry" clutch...
thanks in advance~~~ jony (i am now a huge vintage xlch fan!)

Well, I'd suspect the clutch cable is stretching. Can you adjust any slack out of it?

Creeping with the clutch in is caused by the clutch not fully disengaging, or dragging, so your clutch needs adjustment. If by slipping you mean it does that while riding under power , that suggests it is not fully engaging! You may get away with just adjusting it, but if you find you are unable to cure the problem you will need to dismantle the clutch and take a closer look. Your dry clutch may have oil in it, which might be the problem, which will be obvious when you take it apart.
