You simply buy a high flow filter that fits and replace the stock. Just my opinion but IDK why anyone would want to keep that big ugly thing.

I have been looking to find thr same info. K&N makes a drop in replacement filter but i can not find any data on how much air flow increase going this way. I figured if it was substantial then I would cut out the ramair scoup to have a big open area on the bottom of the stock cover, and maybe open up small slots elsware.

Now a good member here has introduced me to Figure Machine and I have decided to go with their XFLOW-S1 where I can use my original cover to keep the rain off of the filter.

An often overlooked performance benefit of going to an aftermarket A/C system, utilizing a K&N filter vs. a paper one, is to NOT feed hot oily air into your intake. Engines like cool clean air, not hot oily air.

Dropping a K&N into your stock set-up (or an aftermarket that has an internal breather system) is only getting you half of the potential.

There are also the issues of longevity and oil pooling & dripping.

thanks for the replies and info guys.
im personally not a big fan of the stock sucker, but im also not flush with funds at the moment.
i think that link to xlforums is similar to the setup i seen.
i thought about replacing the stock filter to a K&N filter, but then i thought that i would need to mod the back plate somehow to accommodate a higher flow of air. but im not to mechanically minded so i could be talking a lot of **** lol
thats why i come here, to hear from the friendly experts
