I own an 09 Harley Nightster. I just went over my 500 mile break in. I'm about just over 600 now. I noticed after my ride on Sunday when I shut my bike down. The oil light came on. Prior to starting the oil light is on but as soon as it's started. It goes out. My concern is this. Before the oil light didn't come on prior to start up when the key is keyed on. Any thoughts? I checked the oil and it was a bit low (after shut down when it was hot). It needed a little oil so I put some in and it's full. I'm still getting the oil light. Is there something I have to do to reset it? I don't have an owners manual as I bought it used. I'll be going to the dealership today to pick one up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's normal.

The light on indicates NO oil pressure, not the oil level. If the motor isn't running you can't have oil pressure since the motor drives the oil pump.

 

+1 If I didn't see the oil light come on when the engine was off I would know it's time to change the sensor.
