I have tried going down to 2nd, but it doesnt "feel" right. that is a good point
I have noticed that 30 mph is kinda an in between speed too slow for 3rd and too
fast for 2nd, just my opinion.

You have a bad gas cap. ???? Possibly the venting is bad, and you're not getting enough flow. Pump? Take it in.

IF, the only time the bike Is "running rough" as you put it, is when you are at this "in between speed", and it has done this from day one as you stated already, then I suspect the motor is lugging. The sporty is smoother at slightly higher RPM's compared to other HD's.

+1. I have an 08 1200C and am in between 1st and 2nd gear at 30MPH. Sporties prefer higher RPMs.

thats good info to know, this is part of the reason that I havent made an issue of it to the dealer. I am new to the sportster scene and am unsure what is normal and what is not, I think I will just have them (the dealer) just look into it when I take it in for the fuel light just to make sure. thanks all!

Default Runs like chit at just off idle.

Anyone ever figure this out? Mine does same thing, can't figure it out and HD wants a Grand plus to redo everything I've already done and then diagnose. Maybe it's just how it runs, but can't imagine it being that bad. Sadly first and last Harley I'll ever own. Only has 8K miles on it and can't even stand to ride it.

O2 sensors and aftermarket pipes make mine lug a little. If it has a fuel tuner look at adjusting that first.

Do I read this right? 4000 miles in 9 years? I would dump a half can of Sea Foam in it, fresh fuel and ride it in one shot until you need to refill the tank. Then add the other 1/2 can and do it again. 4000 miles in 9 years, the bike sets a bunch and needs some ride time. Stale fuel may be your issue? Slip ons should make no difference unless they aren't tight on the head pipe. Then it should only pop on decel. If you are lugging the bike it will seem like it's running like crap.
