Harley Davidson considers adding the SE Air Cleaner, SE slip-on mufflers and a remap to be "stage 1" on the 883 and 1200 bikes. Stage 2 is air cleaner, slip-ons and SE cams and a remap. The following are from the Screamin' Eagle Performance Calibration book for 2007 bikes: (note, calibrations 1-84 are for non-Sportster models, so I am starting the list with the Sporties!) The "File Name" is the new "map" that goes with the modification. For those changing ONLY pipes/mufflers, no remap is required.

Configuration: XL 883 SE A/C & Race Exhaust (Stage 1)

Other options for doing a stage 1 (or two) include using other brands of mufflers, aircleaners or using a "user adjustable" fuel calibrator, such as the Screamin' Eagle Race Fueler, Vance & Hines FuelPak, SE Race Tuner and PCIII as it becomes available.

Yea HD is real fast to "upgrade" even the Names of Modifications, RUBS don't want to hear they just paid $600 for a .5 modification!! The info I got is from the SportsterHmepage Website, have been hearing lots of discussion over the years about "Stages".

 

What's the "race exhaust", rharrison? Drag pipes maybe?

I had the call on that one...the Screamin' Eagle slip-ons are considered "Race Exhaust." Also, I agree that HD is quick to call something stage 1. However, calling something a "stage 0.5" is a stretch. I would consider stage 1 slip-ons, since, according to MoCo, that alone provides a significant increase in torque and hp. (See this edition of "The Enthusiast.)
