Default Exhaust Gasket Question

Hi everyone,

My friend asked for help replacing his stock pipes for V&Hs and I was surprise to see there were no exhaust gaskets on the bike with the stock setup.. Is this normal, does he NEED to get gaskets and what would happen if he doesnt?

Regards!

Are you sure there was no gasket? Old wire crush gaskets can get wedged right into the exhaust gasket groove and need to be removed with a pick or needlenose pliars.

They are there. They might be hard to see, but you need to pick them out. I use a small flathead to pry up part of it, and then pull it out with a pair of needlenose pliers.

yeh the gaskets are woven metal so they compress down to very thin and just like mentioned above, can be wedged along the edge of the port and be very difficult to see. New ones are like 1/4 thick until you compress them down with the new exhaust.
