RE: How did you learn?
I bought the bike. Then I went and got my temps. Then the HD was delivered and sat in my garage for about 4 days. Then a buddy came over and made me sit on it and walk it down the alley. I started it up and went down the street. The first time I ever rode. I drove around the neighborhood for about 10 minutes. The next morning I went around the neighborhood for about 10 minutes... got brave and went to the bank and then and got a haircut. Later that day I went out for 15 trip to my brothers.
400 miles later I was in Riders Edge.

RE: How did you learn?
I'm another dirt bike guy... had a couple of Hondas as a kid, including the super cool trail 50, which I'll bet I put 100,000 miles on. Actually still have in in boxes in my basement just waiting for my son to get a little older.
I'll also agree that dirt riding shows you all sorts of stuff that you just can't learn on the road... has saved my butt more than once.
Anyway, had some time between the dirt and the road, XLOCD I hear ya on the parents not liking road bikes!
Rode many friends road bikes, then bought a Yamaha 400, then an Suzuki SV650s, then my Sportster.

RE: How did you learn?
I learned on a Ruttman Uglys when I was 5 years old. Then I had a 1970 Honda xr-75, countless other dirtbikes and motorcross bikes. The best instruction I've ever had was on a race track. I took a rider safety course once and left early to prevent death from boredom. Put your kids on a motorcross track, thats where you'll find the best riders in the world.
