Default Best Tuner options?

My dealer was $700 to install an HD Tuner, and dyno tune my bike. That just sounds crazy to me. Only changes are SE intake and putting a set of V&H pipes on it nothing more.

Anyone have a good opinion on the V&H tuner? Cobra? Or is the HD Tuner the way to go?

Also, any recommendations on a great service shop in the Houston area? I like my dealers sales guys, but I have never thought too highly of their service dept.

EDIT: This is a 2011 Forty-Eight

Have You looked at a thundermax? It will cost you $850, but you will never need another dyno.

That price sounds about right. I went that route on my Heritage and I am VERY pleased with the results, and especially the torque gains. The one issue with the SE Pro is that it's married to your bike, unlike the aftermarket choices. Do you plan on keeping the 48? Are you considering possible cam work in the future? If so, the HD tuner would be a good choice.

i like the techlusion fuel management... you can adjust it like a carb- and it is only about $250 or so. very easy to use- combine this with a new air sucker and pipes and you will not recognize the performance that your bike will give you!

Best tune you can get SERT on the DYNO by a pro.
Wow it is going to cost you but the best is the best.
Few if any need it.
Next is the PCV type systems TFI Gen4 high end very good costly and over kill for most
real world for most street riders TFI gen 3, or one of the cheap simple piggy backs with simple pot setting.

I'll bite. Why is SERT better than SEPST PowerVision? They seem about the same except the data-logging, as I am understanding it, is better on PowerVision. PowerVision might not be popular with the HD dealerships but others own a dyno that can tune it too. My SEPST was professionally tuned but I can't see how it is different than SERT or PV that is professionally tuned.

I do plan on keeping the bike. I just don't want to drop cash on something that is a complete waste. I will probably have the dealer install the tuner and do the dyno after I install the pipes. Time to cash in some vacation $$!

I honestly don't think what they are asking for is ridiculous. Look at the HD catalog. SEPST costs $460 so make sure they are giving you the Screaming Eagle Pro Super Tuner and not the Street Tuner. I got about 20% of sometimes so it makes it $370. Dyno tuning around this area is $300, give or take. So you see $700 isn't outlandish. My under, which is standing, is that the engine runs lean from the factory. EFI can compensate TO A POINT. By adding an AC and pipes, you are taking restriction out. More air and same fuel means a leaner than stock condition. Could it push the thing out of the compensation window? It could. You can see my graph HERE and see that the AFR was a little higher than it should be with AC and pipes. I planned for a dyno tune when I did pipes and AC.

What is this "vacation" and "$$" you speak of? Is it something you get easily? I heard some mention of them but haven't seen enough of either to recognize them.

I'm happy with my V&H Fuelpak. I bought a 2011 Heritage, and it pinged under load. I put a Stage 1 air cleaner (Harley part 29773-02C) and a set of Rush slip-ons on it. Pinged even worse. So I put the Fuelpak on and the bike had noticably more power, and the ping was history.
