Default Oil Gauge Install on a 883 Evo

With the reconstruction of my Sportster, all idiot lights were removed. I did want to monitor my oil pressure, but found limited options for installing a gauge on an Evo Sportster. Here is what I came up with.

I purchased the gauge on EBay for $25.00

The oil line is a 12” grease gun hose purchased at AutoZone for $7.00

1/8” NPT female brass fitting from Home Depot for $5.00

The clamp is a 2” EMT strap from Home Depot for $1.75

Toughest part of this job was bending the 2” clamp to fit the gauge. The package comes with two, which is good because I mangled the first one.

A standard grease gun hose (rated for 3,000 psi) uses 1/8” NPT male fittings on both ends. The new hose threads in directly below the oil filter to where the oil pressure sensor was installed.

I used the brass 1/8” female to make a transition from the hose to my gauge.

That spacer between the gauge and frame is from the brake or shifter forward controls (can’t remember) that I removed during the rebuild.

Works great and I can read the gauge just fine when riding the bike.

Hope this helps for anybody looking to do something similar. Any questions just give me a shout.
