If you wait for the light to go off before you start the bike, it shouldn't come back on. If it comes back on, there is a stored error code. I could be something as simple as starting the bike before the check engine light went off.

Just go through the process of checking the codes. There is a sticky at the top of this forum giving the steps on how to check the codes. If you don't get any error codes, just clear everything, and see if the engine light comes back on again.

 

It was a stored code. I got rid of the stored code and the light didnt come back on. Thanks everyone for all your input and advice. It is all greatly appreciated.

 

Any time there is a code I ask "What" and "Why". What was the code and why did you receive it?

Why would check engine light come on when going up a fairly step hill then go off once you reach the top?
