Kill the cat!

No really, I had the same problem, my 1200XLC came with a small sport shield which did little (cause it was little) & my wife thinks I nuts for buying a bigger shield but on long hauls its a help, I ride 250 miles X2 sometimes in one day so I'm doing whaat works for me. Try the 1/2 helmet and let us know your reaction/thoughts. In the short term I got a cat trap...

What about the new universal shields from LRS? Has anyone tried those with any good results? Im really interested in getting one, but I don't wanna drop $300 to "take a chance" on reducing the wind shear on my upper body. I ride two up a lot, and I can deal with the pressure on my upper body, just not the "cat pawing" of my head bouncing around from buffeting. Im really watching this thread to see the results....

As suggested, I tried adjusting the shield's angle. With the shield tipped forward as much as possible, about .5", the ride is better. Buffeting at 85 is about equal to what it was at 75. 75 is comfortable now.

The shield won't stay in place, the air pressure is greater than the clamping force so it slips back at speed.

Next is to fab a pair of brackets to keep it in place, starting at .6" or .7"

Stay tuned.

Thumbs up

We got a winner!
Buffeting is way down. 75 is comfortable, 85 is tolerable. No more chattering teeth or blurred vision.
The brackets push the upper windshield mount forward 3/4" which makes the shield seem taller.

So you fabbed a new bracket, or just added washers? How about a picture?

Also was your before and after done in the exact same conditions, ie wind speed/direction?

I did a wind dance, but it didn't work.

I do test on the same loop, but can't control traffic, cops, etc., not even the wind.

The brackets are simple aluminum stock (approx 1" x 2") with a 1/2" hole and a 5/16" hole, 3/4" apart (center to center):

I came in to post I have the Harley Shield cut for those lights you can add and notice hardly any buffeting. Maybe it's the shield with the extra on the bottom that causes this? I have a skid lid,1/2 helmet and fullface. Normally riding with the skid lid,we don't have helmet laws but I ride up to WV alot so have to have something
