RE: First Bike?
A honda XR75 that my parents bought me new in 1977, loved that bike rode it until I wore it out, Then I got a RM 125 Suzuki after that I had a CR 250 Honda that was the best dirt bike ever had. I also had a Honda 250R 3 wheeler which was a blast could ride a wheelie on it for miles. It was all off road riding until I got my sportster last year.

RE: First Bike?
A Powell back in 1955. It was a Mustang knockoff, which looked a lot like a Sportster, or maybe more like a Fatboy with those big solid rims. Had a one-lunger which I don't know how big it was, but it did have a Ford 60 piston in it. It did better than the speed limit no sweat, but since it was equipped with only a rear brake, it didn't stop all that well. Rode it to school every day and put a lot of miles on it; until one day a lady in front of me jammed on her brakes, which of course I had to, and down we went. Low-sided right across the road right in front of a parked police car. Embrassing, to say the least. Bent the handlebars and rather than trying to find another set, I traded it off for a 1935 Plymouth coupe.
In those days, no helmet (couldn't even find them), no insurance needed, and if there was a license required (I don't think there was) it wasn't much of one. No MSF training then, but somehow we all survived with not much more than a couple of us with road rash. The "Good Old Days!"
