Please Help--Buying a Sportster 1200 Low??
I am 5' 11", and 190 lbs. I am thinking of buying a 2006 Sportster 1200 Low with standard (not forward) foot controls. I like the looks and the price of this particular bike (it will be my first) but I am concerned that the bike may be too low. Any thoughts from similar sized riders?

[&:]i'm female, same height as you.... (ride an 06 883R)... when I was looking at the Low, my salesperson rolled the bike out, had me sit on it & put up my feet... then she told me to get off, because I looked stupid with my knees around my ears... (get your mind out of the gutter ) I chose the 883R because the seat height fits me better, also added forward controls to it, my inseam is at least 34, makes for a more natural lean.... hope that helps... wish I would have opted for the larger cc'c thou... (1200)

I am 5'11" and 230. I tried an 883L and found it comfortable, but preferred the riding position of the XL50 and Customs. The Low is a cool lookin' bike that is similar in height (or higher) than many of the "customs" that are being built. I think a low with an engine bar with foot rests (i.e., Lindy Multibar or Lindbar) would be very comfortable.

I'm 5'11" 225 and ride the 2006 1200 low with mid foot pegs. Rides great and is a lot of fun. No problems, very comfortable. I'm just starting my Mods, added a Sundowner and purchased a used detacheable windshield. Adding the sissy bar & backrest, V&H straight shots, Arlen Ness big sucker and a carb rejet (hoping to wrench it all myself).Add some bags and I got a sporty glide. Pull the windshild, backrest and everything off and I'm cruising in town.
Good luck, buy what you feel good about.

I am 5 feet 6 inches. I have foward controls on my 06 1200L and it fits very comfortable. I would suggest you get what you really want because you will be riding the bike for many miles and you do want to be comfortable. SPend the extra few thousand if you need it will make the rides more enjoyable and the time spent in the saddle more comfortable. The 1200 does have plenty power though if you do decide to get it..
