Some people are better off taking their bike to the dealer and should never touch a wrench.
Some people don't have a problem at all working on their own equipment.
Some people don't have a problem wrenching but may have never wrenched a particular item. So they have a few questions to help guide them through it and then they see the light and realize its pretty easy.
Some people don't have a problem working on their own equipment but then run in to a situation that has them a bit stumped. Then they come to the forums to help clarify a situation they may have run into.
If you don't end up thinking its easy after a few projects. Then refer to the first sentence of this post.
Thats why these forums exsist...........

Got it all back together this AM, did the front one too while I was at it. Compared to the back, the front was duck soup. Glad I did, the 2 pcs paper gaskets were misplaced from the factory, the new 1 pcs gaskets are FAR superior. Fired right up, put about 100 miles on it, perfect. THANX for all the help!

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I didn't want to start a new one on this topic. I am putting my bike back together and I can find NO WAY to get the rear cover back in place. I have been very patient. Over the past 2 days I have spent about 4 hours in the garage moving it all over the place, trying different positions, etc. I turned the engine to various positions to get the rocker arms in different places and nothing seems to work. I have the tank, seat, anything you could want out of the way removed. I even clipped any zip ties I thought might have been interfering. Can anyone give me any kind of insight, besides patience, as to how the cover is supposed to fit back in place? I REALLY don't want to have to mess with the motor mounts. From reading lots of threads I feel like I'm the only one having this much trouble with assembly.

I used a long wood dowel to find TDC on the rear cylinder, I removed the air cleaner and its backplate, then moved the top cover to the right/forward. With very light pressure at first it came right out and went back the same way. The leak was right where the fold is in the gasket, the gasket was dirty inside at that spot so it had been doing some breathing there as well as leaking oil. I replaced both gaskets on the rear but only the top one in the front. The rocker support box gasket was fine on the rear but since I pulled the support box I replaced it anyway.
