Default Nightster front fork upgrade help.

Changed the rear shocks on my 07/8 Nightster with Road king air shocks.Brought the height up a bit and improved the ride a lot. Looking to stop the front forks being so compressed now. Looking on here everyone seems to go for the progressive springs but what ones would I need? I mean size, length and would I need to use heavier fork oil. All help appreciated.Cheers.

You want the kit 11-1527, same as I used in my 2006 XL1200C. They also have a "lowering kit", but I don't think that is what you are after. The progressive springs are shorter than stock, but you use a spacer to adjust the preload. The spacer is nothing more than some 3/4" PVC pipe, and comes in the kit. I used what progressive recommended in their instructions, a 3" spacer, and it seemed to be just right. Fork oil... I dunno, I used the stock type E oil, lots of guys like Bel Ray 15 wt, it probably depends on your riding style and weight... again, I went with what progressive recommended for the amount and type of oil.

It really helped out with the quality of ride after I put on my air shocks. Night and day really, you can try heavier oil, the oil is pretty cheap and easy to change if you decide it's too stiff.

You may be able to just keep your stock springs and use heavier oil and/or a preload spacer (that same 3/4" PVC pipe) and get what you are looking for on the cheap.
