We have 7 of us riding from Florida to AZ next weekend and should be there the Monday after Easter. If any of you Arizona guys want to ride with us while we are there we will be riding every day for the next 8 days in your great state and would love to meet more of you. PM me if you are interested and we will make arrangements to get together.

Real men ride 191 to relax after they've taken Apache Trail (88) from Apache Junction to Roosevelt Lake. Just don't do it on a hot day (won't get enough speed for a breeze), or on a weekend when fools towing boats think it's a shortcut to the lake (you shut the engine off, drink, pee, and take some pictures while they try to jink around a curve). It's kind of an endurance test, unless you're on a trail bike, but the scenery's great. Too lazy to dig some slides out and scan them right now; here's a pic I snagged off the web:
my first time up the Apache Trail was 1966 , my dad drove us up in our '64 Mercury 4 door . i see they haven't changed it much !
i was in Jerome about 20 years ago , lots of small businesses , artists , craftspeople etc. running stores there then . is it still the same or has it gone back to being a ghost town again ?

I rode out to Jerome last fall with some friends. I don't think it's changed much in the past 20 years. It's still a lot of small businesses, artists, and craftspeople. but if you do go again soon, I highly suggest stopping at Haunted Hamburger for a bite to eat. Ask to sit on the second floor. The view is spectacular.

That would be a LONG trip. You're looking at riding highway for 4 hours just to get to the beginning, then an hour or so (depending on how much time you spend in Jerome) to go from Prescott to Jerome and back, then 4 hours to get back to Vegas. You might want to consider doing the longest continuous stretch of Route 66 instead. It goes from Topock to Seligman through Oatman, Kingman, and Peach springs. When you're done you could just shoot back to Vegas on the 40 and that would take up a lot less time than getting to Jerome.
