Default front fork leaking

Hey looking for some help, just went out to the garage to fire up the bike now that the weather is getting better.Noticed a pretty giant puddle under the left( if your sitting on the the bike) side fork up front. cant seam to figure out where its coming from, there's no drip marks, and no run trails down the tube. Its red fluid, the forks were changed to chrome before i owned the bike. any help would be great

Fork seals don't usually dump oil in a puddle like that, they just seep a little bit around the top of the slider (lower leg) and then, only when riding it. Are you sure it's not your front brake cylinder leaking? Check the fluid level in the master cylinder.

Not sure about 90s models but later bikes have a drain screw right near the bottom of the lower slider. It's a philips head screw on the back side, about an inch from the bottom. Could drip straight onto the floor leaving very little of a trail.

There is a copper crush washer under the drain screw...previous owner no doubt used ATF for fork fluid as I did for this one.

Pull the wheel and check the allen screws up in the tubes that hold the damper and the legs together.

+1 on this as well as the drain screw.

Hopefully your drain screw hole isn't stripped. One of the many bad things about chrome parts is that most of the threads need to be chased before installation and not many ppl do.

Now that you mention that it makes more sense seeing as he can't locate any tracks on the leg. (There is a copper washer under those capscrews as well)

HAhah! thank you guys for the help went and checked the drain screw and the screw was loose and there was no crush nut and as soon as i touched it it was a steady drip which leads me to believe its stripped to a point because it has movement while "threaded in". thank you guys, ill probably check and go over everything anyways just to be safe. One more thing, is there a specific way to add fluid to the tubes? I'm hearing different ways and opinions from different people.
