At what point was I confused about how long ago the original post was made? Did the facts about ABS change in five years? I did a search for aftermarket ABS for Harley's. If you want to complain about how long ago the original post was whine to google.

If putting ABS on a Harley ends up costing more than the motorcycle is worth the solution just isn't worth it. I have a friend of mine coming to visit from the States and I though I would find a motorcycle to buy so he wouldn't have to rent one. I saw a second hand Sportster 1200 for sale locally for $4500. I'm certain it doesn't have ABS being that it's 2006 model and I was trying to see if there is a way to upgrade the brakes to ABS, but it looks like I'd be better served buying a new motorcycle with ABS. Thanks for your input.

So this is what you do to people considering buying a Harley? I have a choice between buying a used Harley for around $4k and fixing it up or buying a Triumph that doesn't need fixing. I'm leaning more toward the Triumph if this is what I can expect on a HD forum.

You'll have no abs on a $4k sporty (at the time i'm writing this 3/7/2017). If you want abs and the triumph has it. Get the triumph. Id (here in the US) prefer a sportyy just for aftermarket goodness and widespread support dealer abundance, and parts availability. The metric would be low on my. Your situation may be different. If you are depending on ABS.... you are risking your life. ABS is nice, skill is more valuable.
have fun and ride safe whichever way you go.
"fixing up".... why not just spend more on the bike? Rather than fix up? "Pay me now or Pay me later" situation
