Hot bike makes horrible sound sometimes when starting

well, I'm going off what I've read on this board, I've read about 3 major design flaws on sportsers just this week, sorry, but it pisses me off that HD would purposely put a defective starter on their motorcycles that craps out after 12,000 miles, this is why no one buys american products anymore.

BIKE parts are expensive, no matter what brand it is. Keep in mind that companies overseas sell what's called "parts lots" which means if you scar up your carb needle, you have to buy a whole carb, just to get the needle. Not to mention that yamaha, honda, and kawasaki ALL stop making parts after 10 years, and then the parts get REALLY expensive. To each their own though.
All I know is that if I walk into the dealership for a shifter washer for my '73 shovel, I walk back out with one. Not to mention the aftermarket crowd.

+1 I've got over 15000 miles on my modified 1250 W/original starter with 10.5.1 compression. And I bet a quarter of those miles were 1/4 mile at a time so my starter has been put to use so to say........

That's because Harley Davidson has been using the same motor since 1973

Hey, you forgot to mention the **** poor design on the rockers. I've still got a lawsuit pending against H.D.! I had to change rocker gaskets twice, in the 30 K miles on my "08".
Must have missed something on the starter and clutch, Both still ok after 30 K.
Oh, forgot to mention flat tires, Guess Harley should use a nail resistant tire.
