Does the smoke smell like oil? If its spitting oil, that might be the smoke you see.

The horseshoe breather kit IS the proper fix, obviously the moron who changed the air cleaner just left the crankcase vents open to the air and your problem is going to continue until you put on a breather kit, the only thing easier is not to start the bike.

He has not put the fuel pack on yet, as listed in the OP. It would really help the bikes tuning if he did actually install the fuel pack.

Agreed on fixing/figuring out the breather bolts before adding the fuel pack.......However, I'm not up to speed on all this EFI crap, but know that he should tune the bike to run properly after adding high flow exhaust & A/C.

Which is EXACTLY why mine is being dyno tuned. This way the entire curve is being fixed including open loop. There are 3 elements to the engine. Fuel, spark and air. Air is controlled by the Throttle Body behind the filter. I would also want to control both spark and fuel and not just fuel. I also don't want a map you shove in my face. I got the program from the first guy. Got opinions and decided to get a different guy to fix it. If you can, return it for a PowerVision or SEPST if you don't care to dyno tune your bike. Don't let the term "dyno tune" fool you into thinking it is ONLY for a race application. How do you think HD got your bike running the way it does? Of course, now that you changed the parameters, you have to remap the thing and not just shortcut the process if you want it to run silky smooth

It is normal for it to spit oil and smoke when it is hot when you leave the stock breather bolts installed and don't have it routed into the stock air cleaner.

HOWEVER, it is bad to run it that way. Not only does air get pushed out the breathers, it ALSO GETS Sucked in. With no filter you are taking dirty air straight into your engine!

Get some sort of filtered breather system on there before running it anymore is my strong advice!

Outlaw Breather Bolts are the easiest, cleanest route.

A horseshoe breather will work as well, not quite as clean looking, and probably more expensive.

You can go back to stock, but it is not particularly good for the motor to route that nasty air into it, and performance will definitely suffer.

But for sure, do something!
