Default 2012 Sportster 1200 Custom

Hey all,

I am new to the Sportster forum but very active on the touring side. I ride a 2007 Road King Classic. My wife is trading in her 2011 Street Glide on a 2012 1200 Custom, loaded with accessories. She decided to go back to a smaller bike as she is only 5'4 and was not as comfortable handling the Street Glide at slow speeds. The buffeting on the Street Glide was also an issue.

My question is this: Should I expect to pay close to MSRP for a new Sportster ? I keep getting told by dealers that the Sportsters do not have as much wiggle room as larger touring bikes and I can see that point, but I have been able to purchase both of my touring bikes for well under MSRP.

Any tips or great add ons for the 1200 Custom ? She is getting the reduced reach seat and about everything else you could possibly add.

Thanks.

My favorite upgrade was progressive shocks- the stock shocks aren't worth a nickel IMHO.

I have had a '12 C for a few days now. I am 5'7" and had mid controls installed before delivery. I just prefer mids. As far as pricing goes you are correct in there is not much mark-up on the Sporty's. That being said I was able to get the mid's installed and an extra one year additional ESP in the deal for "free" but this was also my 4th bike I have purchased from the same store.

She is gonna love the riding and handling characteristics. The turn in is great and, surprisingly, the ride is nice. The fat front tire gives the bike a nice stable feeling. I am 168 lbs. and have the rear pre-load set on the #2 position. It's a bit rough over manhole covers and such but for the most part I am pleasantly surprised.
