Default Pullback install. Need some advice

Hey all,

So, I decided to install 3.5" pullbacks from J&P (http://www.jpcycles.com/product/214-226) with 1" pullback.

Installed the risers today and they hit the tank... I can barley turn the bars.

Has anyone run into this issue? It's really irritating, 'cause they bring the bars almost exactly where I want them.

I figure my two options are:
A) Buy 4.5" risers
or
B) Buy DK's 1" riser extensions

Also, what are my options for relocating the speedo to the headlight brow?

thanks in advance!

Might consider changing the bars...sometimes tall risers get funky looking.

Eh, that's a good point. I might mock it up to see what it would look like 1" higher later today.

Are you using the stock bars with the risers? I used pullback risers on my old Iron but also used drag bars.

Yea, stock bars. I'm only going up about 2.5" with an inch of pullback, the bar clamp hits the tank with very little room to move. What size are those pullbacks, 5.5"?

And any insight on how you did the speedo relocation? I'm really interested in doing that too.

thanks

What size tank do you have? I installed the 3.5" pullbacks and don't have any problem (3.3 gal peanut tank). The speedometer relocation is really easy. You just get a longer set of bolts and some sort of spacer tube then bolt it onto the eyebrow. I used a couple of long sockets for my spacers because I wanted to go with something chromed. Got a couple of Kobalt brand 13 mm long sockets for about $4 each at Lowe's and used them. I painted the top of the new bolts and washers with black krinkle paint so that they would match my speedo, and it was ready to go. There's a good thread about doing the relocation over on XLforum.

Awesome, thanks swamp.

Bike is all stock, same old 3.3gal peanut. You're able to clear the tank with the 3.5"? Happen to have a picture?

thanks,

Just ran outside and took some pictures. The handle bars are turned all the way (don't know if you can see it well or not) and miss the tank by about 5 mm.

Thanks man, I think I'm gonna pull them off and see if I somehow screwed something up.

Lovin' the speedo relo. I may end up doing that with some black Kobalt sockets

I've been real happy with the speedometer relocation. It was simple, cheap, and it has worked great. I can even still get the windscreen on when I'm doing longer trips without rubbing the speedo. I bet the black sockets will look great, post a pic when you get it done.
