Default Extended cable write-up

My Burly 14" apes, extended cables kit & new grips should be in this week. I went w/a 12" cable kit even though I oredered 14" apes because it seems everybody says the cables are too long. Also the 48 doesn't have a riser so I'm hoping I'll be good! I've searched here & google for a write-up on the install on a Sporty but have not been able to find even 1. Has anybody done a write-up on this? I'm mechanically inclined but the clutch cable install has me a bit paranoid! I don't own a manual & have no intentions of buying 1 anytime soon. Does the Burly kit come w/good detailed instructions? Any tips/tricks/write-ups greatly appreciated!

I'm in the middle of my new 10" mini ape handlebar change out with extended cables also from Burley.

I have the clutch cable installed, which was kind of a beech. I still lack the wiring (just purchased a soldering gun today), the throttle cable extensions, the front brake extensions, and then putting it all back together.

I too do not have a manual, but sure wish I had one after the clutch cable thing.

I will try to take some pics soon, but am working out of town, so the bike will have to wait a while.

Good Luck.

just did the same last weekend on my iron but with 12" biltwell narrow apes and the 12" burly cable extension. im a noob with tools but i figured it out - if i can do it you def can.

biggest pain was drilling the bars but you wont have that problem.

clutch is easy - i used these videos - tells you how to adjust after too

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=invnrw3nj3U

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48WID2TE1AA

i just backed the adjustment all the way off and then took the derby cover off. make sure the bike is level or youll have oil all over the floor. ask me how i know

take the spring thing out (youll know when you see it). now you can see the adjustment screw. undo that and the whole circular thing comes out and you can take out the clutch cable. be very carefull when your screwing the new clutch cable into the case - you can strip the thread easy. just nip it up.

please excuse my terminology - just shows that even an eejit like me can do it. if you have any questions ill help where i can

yeah that delboys fellas videos are quite good. He takes things nice and slow and doest assume your a mechanic

here he is doing one on the sportster brake line too which i used when i put on the burly brake line - very helpfull. not sure if your changing your brakeline but here we go. its a bit long but you can fast forward when he starts chatting about stuff

the 3 bearings i think your talking about are in that circular metal thing you pull out which is attached to the cluth cable inside the primary (the thing the dude in the burly video puts back in the case) i saw them there but they didnt fall out and i wasnt exactly gentle.

i think as long as you dont drop or throw the thing around youll be fine

What specialty tools did you need? C-clip pliers? Any else? I have a lot of tools but don't have many specialty tools, like c-clip pliers!

no specialist tools whatsoever.

what i used instead of c-clip pliers and also to take the connectors off for the internal wires was a small set of needlenose pliers. got them on ebay for 4 bucks - they are small "electrical" ones

oh and 1 paperclip

promise its not hard dude - just time consuming. id budget a whole day to do it properly nice and slowly with a few beers and some music on

when you looking at starting? if you get stuck or need any help ill be glad to jump in

I'll be starting on it the day after all my stuff arrives. I'm waiting on the apes, cables & grips. Should be here by this weekend!!! I'll be doing the install either Friday or Saturday, hopefully.
