Default Widest back tire without mods?

I want to get wide wheels/tires without having to make any adjustments to the backend. What are the widest rims and tires possible I go?

Help us to help you! What year bike, current wheel and tyre size?

If you have a 3" wide stock rim the widest tyre you can fit to it is 150/80, which has the same rolling diameter of an MT. However you need around 1/2" clearance between your current tyre and the belt to get one in. You can check that yourself!

Same questions for a 2010 Sportster 48... I'd love to put a wider tire on (maybe a wheel, too).

Thanks

I have a 2007 nightster, *With stock in the back (150/80 R16 71H). I'd also change out the rim too

Wink

We've covered this on another recent thread. The limiting things are clearance in your fender, plus clearance with the drive belt.

The widest tyre a 3" rim will take is 150/80, so for wider tyres a wider rim is necessary. If you have enough room, I am tempted to suggest trying a Deuce rear wheel, which is 4.25" x 17" and takes a 160 or 170 wide tyre!

Hahaha! Very true! I'm saving my money and scratching this idea out. Thanks y'all!

160 is the widest tire you can put on a newer sporty 09 and up. The rear wheel is a 16x3" rim. You can use a 16x3.5 or an 18x4.25".
