As to you,
1. Lying to your dad? Hope he enjoys it as much as you.

2. Safety courses are silly, get out on a bike and ride, dirt is the starter course, ride every day for 2 weeks 2+ hrs per minimum, if you didn't break anything, learned to dump & stop, where all the controls are & got it down pat your ok, if not? well... When I started you went to DMV, showed you could handle the bike & got your lic. Its your a$$ not theirs.

PARTS: IMO ride and enjoy, put on some miles, see what you want unless you have a particular look in mind (not like the guy above), you may find what you thought is not what works for you.

.
Safety courses aren't silly IMO solely due to the fact they lower your insurance in NJ by more than the cost of a class in a single year ! So it pays for itself you learn stuff and the following years you still get the discount ... For that reason alone I know a few experienced riders who took it

Congrats, you're gonna be havin some fun and it's gonna be great to ride with your dad. Besides the skill building, having passed the MSF should get you a discount on insurance.

Congrats on the bike. Lots of great roads not too far from you in the Piney's. Steer clear of the traffic on the coast, especially from Memorial day to Labor day! Enjoy and ride safe!

Congratulations on your new ride. You are wise to take it slow. Taking a course is the only way to go. Getting some pre - practice on your buddy's dirtbikes is very helpful too. I ride with my father, and can't think of anything better in life. Ride Safe.

Congrats on the new bike. It always freaks me out a bit when someone buys a bike and says they have to learn to ride. I guess I'm luck as I was tought to ride at the age of 6.
