Default Sportster solo rack + shorty sissybar

I would like to mount the solo rack on a 2012 Iron 883 (this one)

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

and at the sametime have a shorty sissybar/sideplates (like this)

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

(and this)

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

Having the sissybar sit to the rear of the rack would further capture any bag/backpack I attach to the rack and also give me the ability to add the Harley emblem I have also always wanted to the back of the sissy bar...

The guys at my local Harley shop told me that these two configurations are incompatible... however could not tell me exactly why... my guess would be something to do with the quick release system on these units... (which I do not want as once I bolt these units on they will stay put)... they did not have either unit in stock so I would have to order them to examine figure out... and the online pictures/instructions were no help in figuring it out either...

Anybody have any experience with this configuration or ideas in general...

Thanks in advance...

They aren't compatible if you use the HD docking hardware that is meant for the solo rack because there wouldn't be room for another piece. If you plan to attach it with some other type of hardware it should work.

I think your biggest issue is getting the uprights to pass through the solo rack, not the mounting. Below are pics of a detachable sissybar and solo rack. That angled support in the solo rack gets in the way.
Check out Motherwell's Solo Racks. That'll solve your problem. It's available in black, too.

Rigid mount sissybar uprights are available. It apppears they're a little more slim and would mount between your fender and fender strut. They could be powder coated black.

Just a little heads up. I had the rigid sideplates and sissy bar mounted and tried to put my Motherwell's solo rack inbetween to mount it, but it would NOT fit! The solo rack is still too wide. Maybe this would fit with the detachable sideplates?

wow... from the pictures (which can be deceiving)... it sure looked like the ridgid side mount plates would clear as the rack does not seem to even reach the edge of the fender ???
