Hey all just looking to see if anyone here has seen any articles or posts about this type of motor swap. My primary chain tension block came loose and broke my case on the ironhead 1000. I have been looking for a replacement case half or engine.

Today one of my customers offered me a 2000 883 Evo sportster engine he had on his bench he was planning on putting a 1200 kit on it. So I am thinking of putting it in alot of the posts I see are early to late 70s saying no go but if they had 82-up frame it would work.

Anyone have some insight? I measured the rear bracket and it looks fine the front bracket will have to be fab since the Evo is a bit wider.

I doubt it. 1986 was the first year of the Evo Sportster. Maybe if you made mounts for it.

 

Yeah it'll fit. You'll have to make or modify the upper middle motor mount.

 

Thx thats what I figured the customer I got it from is a metal fab guy so should be good on that. What year is the one in your sig?

 

That started as a 2003 XL1200C

Something I forgot is that you won't have a front upper motor mount but you don't need it so that's a non-issue.
