I was thinking of using Lucas performance 20w50 for the break in of my new 1250 and also using Lucas engine assembly lube for the conversion install. Any opinions on my choice would be appreciated. I am unable to get Amsoil 20w50 where I live, which was my first choice.
In air cooled aircraft engines they recommend strait mineral oil for break in, the thinking is friction helps the rings to seat quicker and better. That being said, it probably does not make much difference as long as you do not forget to put any lubricant in:]
I use Lucas products in all our vehicles. 2 motor cycles, and 4 cars.
I use mineral based oil for break in however, and not synthetic. After break in I switch to synthetic.
Lucas assembly lube has always worked fine for me.
I just recieved a email from Dan at NRHS regarding this same question. He said break in the kit with regular oil for 500 miles then switch to synthetic if desired.
