Yes a vent, goes inside tank down to the left rear where the small hoes attaches then routs down to the bottom of the frame, on some models like California it goes to a canister

It is a vent by design but yes fuel will come out if you overfill

Default Leak

Thought I had a leak after I filled up for a big ride the next day(Im always running late), and I sat down in the garage to have a cold one and noticed some fuel on the floor. Turned out I had over filled the bike(I fill with the bike balanced upright to get a bit more), but if I hadn't noticed that tube where the fuel was leaking out I probably would've spilt my beer.

Cheers!

Apologies to the O.P., not meaning to hijack this thread, but felt this might be related.

The last several days I've had fuel dumping from the overflow on the carb of my '98 Sporty, thought it was probably the needle valve or something up with the float. I was starting to plan a tear down, cleaning and rebuild. But, last night I decided to pop the gas cap just in case it was a venting issue, no new fuel on the ground this morning. So, I checked the vent line and it was clogged (a red sandy clot). Cleared it with a piece of wire and am hoping that this will take care of the issue.

Quick question, Is the OEM fuel cap a non vented cap? Would replacing it with a vented cap be OK?

Thanks
CS
