Default DIY throttle lock?

I have been looking at a few throttle lock levers to replace the stock star shaped one, because it sucks, but I especially don't want to pay almost $90 for a cruise buddy or even $50 dollars for a cruise mate. It's ridiculous!

I ran across this: http://throttlelocklever.com/index.htm which looks much more convenient/affordable for a poor college student such as myself...

But I wonder if there would be some kind of even cheaper way of doing it. I was thinking I could probably find something at the parts store and maybe make one myself. Any ideas?

Take the star lock off, find something at a hardware store that will fit the hole, weld a piece of metal to the end of it, re-attach.

Or just spend $20 and be done with it (reasonable, IMO): http://www.ebay.ca/itm/DR-CRUISE-HAR...#ht_538wt_1396

It works good, easy to install and worth the money imo I plan on buying one eventually

This looks like the best and cheapest option to me. Do you know if both black and "chrome" are plastic? What keeps them in place other than friction? I'm not sure these 1/4 turn solutions will even work for me, going to have to try it out again tonight before ordering. Pretty sure after installing the aluminum H-D grips, that it takes 3-4 solid rotations with the thumb to get it to lock enough to hold, but I'm willing to gamble $15 or so.

You just need to tighten it up until it only takes a little to lock it. I have this one on mine, with no complaints.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOTORCYCLE-T...item1c1b2df8e1

For some reason, when I get it close to working within two partial revolutions, it limits being able to go WOT. I ordered the $7 one, we'll see how it works.

I found it best to have your bike running, then you give her some gas and turn the thumb
wheel to hold the rpm where you want it, then release the wheel slowly tell the throttle
releases then snap on the klever lever,i like it for warming my bike up 1200 or 1300 rpm
the trick seems to be to speed the bike, up push the lever ahead about halfway then
twist the throttle just abit and it locks it right where you want it
