Default Painting the Cases

Allright guys. Painting the cases with a rattle can. I'm just using a can of rustoleum high temp black paint. It's not drying black though, it's drying a darker grey but not black. Anybody done this that can suggest a product that dries closer to the HD mattblack???

Looks black to me. Please tell me you weren't so lazy as to not even remove the 5 cover.....

you may have to use a clearcoat to get it to appear black vs. grey. I had that issue with the black header paint I used on my engine. Light coat of clear changed that. And SF06, I think I see the "5" too.

Yeah, that picture is of it wet after the first spray. It's definitely grey when it dries. I have seen some guys on here use just a rattlecan and I was hoping to find a product that didn't require a clearcoat. And yes, that is the 5 showing through. Got really antsy to get started as my bike has been in chicago for a season and a half while i've been in dallas for work. got the bike down here and don't have all my tools so i just left it on and taped it.

I'd test an area not too visible with some clear and see how it turns out. Like the bottom edge or something....

Which black did you get? flat, matte or gloss? alot of high temp paint dries a little "grey" try another coat and see if it helps too

I read that here that other people said it came out grey, so I rolled with the HD paint when I did my GF's bike. The HD came out nice and black but its got a little sheen to it that I don't like. I wanted more "flat"...but at least its black

As far as clear coats go, do i need a high temp clear or just your standard clear?

RaceFace - Can you get the HD paint in a rattlecan?

Yup, its on the shelf at the stealer in a rattle can.....at $23.00 each. I used one can for the whole case and the jugs. Its thin and not too easy to work with, so I've got a couple of sags I need to touch up. I have just enough left for that.
