They Had Softails in stock when i bought my sporty. I got the bike I wanted!!

 

 

I always get more compliments on the Sportster than when on the Dyna. Men and women on softails, folks on baggers, dudes on rice rockets, I hear a lot of "good looking bike" not any "is that a girls bike?".

Sportsters just have that "Harley" look plus my 2into1 pipe really has a thump-thump-thump sound at idle that gets a second glance.

 

(playing Devil's advocate) Is there any softail owner that would care? If you want to know how a Softail owner feels, go play with a Hayabusa. Sorry, that wasn't fair, a Hayabusa is a LOT faster than a Sporty. When I want to stretch my arms, I take my Honda; when I want to just enjoy the ride, take the Sporty. Last summer, I just saved money and dropped the insurance on the Honda, fast wasn't worth it.

 

 

His argument is, I believe, that a Softail rider probably didn't buy the bike because it was "fast". I think the "girls bike" comment comes from the idea that BIG = Manly.

I never did get the "girls bike" or the "Half-a-Harley" ones either. To me, a 600 single cylinder unicycle would be the only thing I'd classify as "Half-a-Harley". Regardless, I never let it bug men and usually I'd come back with some smart *** comment.
