Default I think I have a carb issue

I got a 1997 sportster 1200 and i havent been riding for the past month cause it has been so cold. but here in oklahoma it has been nice riding weather. so i decided to start the bike up so i can ride it to work tommorrow and it seemed kind of hesitant to start and i had to keep turning the throttle the choke wasn't working. then i heard a leak and looked under the bike and fuel was just pissing out and then the bike died. if i attemp to start again it just shoots out more fuel. so i found the hose it was coming from and it looked like a overflow hose so i traced it and the other end is attached to the carb. i have no idea why it would be doing this and am just looking for a little insight on how to fix this or just what the problem actually is. anything would help thanks

Try turning petcock off. Run it a few times by manualy filling for a few seconds and cutting petcock back off. May have got some trash under float needle seat. By running it out will let needle drop all way out and new flow of gas will wash crud into bottom of bowl were hopeful it will stay.
