Default Harley 48 wide tire

Hi guys,

Anybody knows what the maximum width is for a tire on the Harley 48 without any changes made?

Anybody has advise on what need to be changed to go wider?

Grtz

Depending on how wide you want to go you will need to change it to chain-drive. There is a guy on youtube who changed his 48 from the stock 150 to a 180 however, he had to grind out some of the inner struts. I think you can even go as high as a 200 if you grind out the struts more. I think the 180 looks great and if I ever decided to to the bigger rear tire thing that is what I would go with. Any bigger and I think it will just start looking silly because the sportsters are not wide bikes. If you want to go any bigger I think you are going to need a new rim, fender and go to chain-drive which means both front and rear sprockets. You will also most likely need some spacers to make sure everything lines up correctly but unless you are doing it yourself, that is something for whomever does the mod to worry about. You might be able to get a 160 tire on there, but it will most likely not even be noticable.
