I would give some ceramic paint a try. It will keep the heat in better...lots of benefits to that.

Both the VHT and the Krylon paints linked to in previous posts are ceramic. I've used the VHT to repaint the exhaust headers for a car and they held up nicely for years, and they were fairly rusty before I sanded them. I have not used the ceramic high heat Krylon, but have had good results with their other paints (used for their intended purpose, not for painting exhaust pipes). The VHT apparently will give more of a matte finish, while the Krylon states it will be more of a glossy finish.
Your best bet either way is to have a clean surface and to make sure the chrome is scuffed up well enough for the paint to stick.
