Default New Handlebars, Old grips?

I was thinking about getting new handle bars, but was wondering how difficult it was to remove my existing grips and install them onto the new bars. I don't really have the money to buy both right now. I have to pick and choose my battles for upgrades.

No sweat. I use an air blow gun to remove the left grip when I change bars. Works like a charm.

If you don't have air, you can use a hair dryer and a thin screw driver.

I use a piece of coat hanger, cut it about 14 inches and bend the end 4 inches into a "tee" shape (so it looks like a "T" shaped allen wrench) then I slide the long end between the grip and the handlebars all the way to the end of the grip and turn the coat hanger like you are loosening a screw, the wire will slowly work its way around the grip breaking the glue/bar bond...sometimes some spray lube helps as you are going around....after you get about 3/4's around you can oftenly just twist the grip the rest of the way loose.... after you have it off make sure and clean the lube off with some alcohol...you can reinstall it with PVC pipe cement...make sure you put the glue inside the grip and on the handlebar (not just on the bar)....and twist the grip a 1/2 turn as you are installing it....I have done it this way a bunch of times and never had a problem....

If the grip fits snug you can also use hair spray or spray paint when you pet it back on the new bars. It doesn't need to be epoxied lol.

Looking at some drag bars and 4.5" risers. I have to get rid of my risers because of the way they were made for a 883C. Have to relocate the speedo also, but will give me room for now for a tank lift. Thanks for all help. I always thought the grips were toast when going to new bars.
