Default sat for 4 years

hello all, I'm looking at a 1995 XLH 1200 sportster that's been sitting in a shed for the last 4 years after he slid down the road on it. i have seen a few pics of the bike showing tank damage gear change and both handle bar leavers broke. he says the engine turns over after he removed the plugs and pushed it in gear (the battery is dead needs replacing) ok the thing is if i clean the carb change the oil and battery do you think it should be good to go after standing for this length of time or could there be more to it than that or stay away from this bike. what i hope to do is build a bobber out of this bike. what do you think thanks

It really just depends on the price......But yes, it shouldn't be too hard getting that road worthy.

I recently picked-up a 1996 Sportster (883) in good shape that had sat for almost eight years. With under 4,500 miles I paid $2,200 for it. If the price is low and you can do the needed work yourself you should be okay.

Just bear in mind that the frame, engine and other metal components can suffer rust and oxidation under the paint that may not be readily apparent unless you examine it real close. Be prepared to refinish those things yourself, or live with it. Like the others said, if the price is right go for it. Good luck.
