Looks more like a Softail to me. I can't get past that ugly speedometer, tacky looking controls, those ugly pipes (the Wide Glide has something similar, ick), or that air cleaner. Also, I'd have to change out those handle bars. No way I could ride like that.

I always thought the Vmax was closer to a Sporty. Gen 1 Vmax was bad ***

I had a V Star 1300 with over 30,000 miles on it (that I put on).
From day one it was nothing but fun. Never ever had a problem with it. With an air cleaner a full exhaust and a tuner the 1300 motor is a beast just waiting to be poked. That bike does outrun Roadstars and a couple of 96" bikes as well this was done several times on open highways. There is absolutely no way a 1200 sportster could keep up with a 1300 especially in the top end. The 1300 motor just keeps on pulling hard !!! In stock trim they are pretty tame... But there is a beast laying and waiting inside that sucker trust me. It may not be much on looks but that bitch is fast !!!
