Planning a trip from NJ to Lake Erie
Hey everyone,
So my buddy and I are getting bummed about the crappy weather that is sure to come, so in order to cope we are planning a trip to Lake Erie. I have a 2010 Iron and he as a completely custom shovel head so it should be a pretty fun ride. I grad college in may and want to go the week after graduation as a gift to myself haha Just lookin for some ideas on how to make my iron more touring friendly and some cool ideas people have come up with to carry a decent amount of cargo on their sporty. Hopefully I'll get some good info on here than once I actually leave I'll use this thread to post pics from my trip
As always thanks for your input and advice
Matt

Road King or Street Glide air shocks will make the ride MUCH smoother.
A sissy bar, stuff sacks and bungee cords and you can carry more than you need.
If you have passenger pegs you can use those to change up your riding position.
Above are all low cost/high benefit ways to make "touring" on a sporty more comfortable.
After that, you can look at a seat, windshield, highway pegs, don't know if your handlebars are comfortable for you...I find my mini apes much more comfortable, especially on road trips.
Also, having foot pegs that give a larger platform and can adjust while riding makes a big difference.
Have fun!

How many days are you taking to make the trip?
I traveled from Louisiana to South Jersey in three days with the cloths I was wearing, and an extra set in my throw over saddle bags along with rain gear, and toiletries. Oh, yea and some shorts and extra tee shirts, I tied a sleeping bag and trap on the back of the bike.
I boxed up and sent some other clothes to the post office and picked them up when I got there. Did the same thing coming back. It made for a fun, hassle free trip.

Windshield definitely would be top of my list just for this trip. Don't know how loud your pipes are but even if they're quiet you'll need ear plugs or ear phones & tunes. The constant wind will be your biggest pain in the azz, I've usually had my fill after about an hour (no windshield), so I'd address that first.
