Default primary cover gasket change

Ok, I am doing this this weekend. Is it necessary to use RTV when installing the new gasket? Also, the kit I bought came with about 10 other orings, Do I have to change those as well? Thanks

I don't think you need RTV, in actuality ... last time I took primary cover off I had no new gasket and I reused the old one ... no leaks ... don't tell anybody ... promise?

No RTV is needed.
I do like to use a spray-on gasket adhesive (I use Nashua 357 gasket adhesive) on one side of the gasket and then stick the gasket in place on the primary before installing the cover. I find it makes installation easier not having to fight with gasket and cover alignment at the same time. The gasket adhesive cleans off easily the next time you need to open the primary.
I don't have a clue where the 10 o-rings would go.

+1 on the adhesive.

I didn't figure out that little trick until after the first time I did this procedure. And it's not necessary to replace that gasket every time you open up the primary. I have an old gasket in my extra parts pile. At least I think it was the old gasket. I couldn't tell the difference.

Oh, but I do recommend plenty of anti seize compound...Trust me, you will appreciate this advice.

I just replaced mine. I didn't use any adhesive. I used the 2 pins to hold it in place. The pins, 1 at each end, held it in place with no problems.

I bought the new gasket at the local HD dealer and didn't receive any o-ring gaskets
