If you have a Harley filter that is not one on the above, it's not a 30 micron.
+1.
And know which filter you need before you go to the dealer. The dealer tried to give me the wrong filter on more than one occasion.

I've had more than one Harley dealer try to sell me the wrong p/n filter.
Last time I tried to get a filter at the dealer he tried to sale me the wrong one. When I told him that the 5 mic was not the right filter he told me I did not know what I was talking about. When I tried to have a reasoned conversation about it he became pretty rude. I left and bought a wix filter from ORileys.

The key here is $6.95, This is good advice.

Just use the stock Harley. Coming from someone who has seen numerous aftermarket oil filter failures. Not saleing Harley since I know they are overpriced but I have never see one fail. Filter size has little signification. Something big will get it before the little stuff. There's a lot of filter median in there. Change the first two at oil change. After that around ever 10,000 at an oil change. Cut many apart at 10K and they would probably go 50K with no problem. Sure there is a little oil left behind at changes but it's probably only 1/3 of what's left anyway. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the info guys! It was hard enough settling in on an oil...I didn't expect the filter to be a PITA too.

I bought a 5 micron for my first oil change on what I thought I read on here somewhere, cant find it though. So, every owners manual Ive ever seen has the OEM part number for the oil filter, I cant find it in mine. So, I checked the factory service manual.........same thing, no part number. The only place I can find a part number listed is on the HD web site. It lists 63805-80A (black stock replacement I presume) but doesnt state the micron size. It also lists the SuperPremium5 63731-99A which does give its micron size. So my question...........where does it call for this?

Harley Big Twin, Twin-Cam motors call for the 5 micron filter.
Harley EVO motors (that includes Sporties) call for a 30 micron filter.

Call for what? The correct HD filter part numbers for a Sporty are posted above.
