A Nightster was my first HD bike and I loved it, and my buddy just picked up a Forty Eight as his first bike and he loves it.

Take them both for test rides and see what feels better to you. What works for me may not work for you. Whatever you feel comfortable on is what you need to go with.

I've been having the same debate. I like the Nightster mids, but don't like the grey. I know some paint the grey, but I'll either get mids put on a 48 and a different seat or get an Iron.

you can't go wrong with either bike so it really is a subjective preference. As already mentioned, take both for a test ride as your comfort is just as important as style IMHO...

Used to have a 07 nightster, and I lov the bike is a blast to ride plus I dig the skinny front tire, but that's me. Like other people said just go to dealer seat on of both, feel it and ask for a test ride...either way, you gonna be a winner.

I believe the fat front tire is the main decision point... let's say you get a 48 but want it with a nightster/iron tank for better range, you can usually swap it (I have seen it done between forum members) , or perhaps at the dealer... now.. let's say you get a nightster, but then the fat tire looks grows on you... that is going to cost you a lot more (triple tree conversion kit, new wheel, new tire)... just my 2c

Either one is gonna be a kickass bike but like Joe said if you like the fat front tire or if you like em skinny its up to you man. Me personally i like the fat tire.

1) Fuel Tank size
2) Footpeg position
3) Front Tire handling/ feel (or appearance)

It is your decision.
I'd vote N for fuel capacity.

I'm pretty new to motorcycles, so I was also wondering what should the first couple of upgrades be? Thanks a lot for the help guys.

Love my 48. Like previous posters said you can change the tank to a Nightster tank if you wish like I did.
